How to Replace an Everpure Filter Cartridge (Step by Step)

By KE Parts Hub

Everpure's twist-and-seal head makes cartridge changes quick and tool-free. Done right, there's no mess and no leaks. Here's the routine.

Before you start: Have the correct replacement cartridge to hand (match the EV code - see our cartridge cross-reference guide). Changing on schedule protects the appliance downstream and keeps water quality consistent.

What you'll need

  • The correct genuine Everpure replacement cartridge
  • A cloth and a small container for the bit of water that escapes
  • A few minutes during a quiet period

Step 1 - Isolate the water

Turn off the water supply to the filter head. If there's an isolation/shut-off valve on the inlet, close it. This stops flow before you break the seal.

Step 2 - Relieve the pressure

There's pressure held in the cartridge. If your head has a pressure-relief button or valve, press it to vent. Otherwise, opening the downstream tap/appliance briefly relieves it. This is what stops the spray when you twist the cartridge out.

Step 3 - Twist out the old cartridge

Everpure cartridges turn out of the head - usually a quarter-turn anticlockwise, then pull straight down. Have your cloth and container ready: a small amount of water will be in the cartridge. Bin the old cartridge.

Step 4 - Fit the new cartridge

Take the cap off the new cartridge. Line it up with the head and push up, then twist clockwise until it seats firmly. It should feel positively locked - don't overtighten, just snug to the stop.

Step 5 - Turn the water back on

Reopen the supply valve slowly. Watch the head and connections for any drips as pressure returns.

Step 6 - Flush the cartridge

New carbon cartridges need a flush to clear fine carbon and air before use. Run water through (to drain or a bucket) for the time stated on the cartridge - typically until the water runs clear. Skipping this can leave grey water or air spitting at the appliance.

Step 7 - Leak check and date it

Check the head and joints are dry under full pressure. Then write the change date on the new cartridge or your maintenance log so the next swap is easy to schedule.

Pro tip: Keep a spare cartridge per system on the shelf. A blocked filter drops water flow and can take an ice machine or coffee setup down - a spare turns that into a two-minute fix.
